Put a design on\nthe corner of the handkerchief, and you have a unique item that belongs only to\nyou!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people make handkerchiefs for themselves and also to\ngive. Handkerchiefs with unique designs make great presents \u2013 imagine your\nbeloved ones always keep your handkerchief with them. Quite a happy feeling,\nisn\u2019t it? You only need to know how to\nsew a straight line, with sewing machine or just your hands, to make your own handkerchief.\nIt is also a pleasant activity, when you are tired of making complex projects!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the best thing is that it does not require you much\nfabric \u2013 a yard of 60 inch wide fabric can make 20 handkerchiefs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What you\u2019ll need:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>1. Materials<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; A piece of cloth\/fabric of your choice<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Thread of similar color to the main color of the fabric<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>2. Tools<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Scissors<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Ruler or tape measure<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Pencil\/fabric marker<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Needle (for hand sewing) or sewing machine<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to make your own\nhandkerchief in just 3 simple steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>1. Iron and lay the fabric flat<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>2. Cut the fabric into your desired measurements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Measure the fabric using your ruler or tape measure and draw\nthe lines to get a square. The handkerchief can be made in any size that you\nwant. For example, the most common handkerchiefs often measure at 10 \u00bd x 10 \u00bd in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always remember to leave about \u00bc in for seam allowance if\nyou don\u2019t want the handkerchief coming out smaller than you expect. Cut the\nfabric \u00bc in from the lines, or if you are not confident with cutting parallel\nto the lines, draw before cutting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>3. Sew it<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fold all four sides of the fabric and make a narrow hem with\na straight line. If you do not have a sewing machine, it\u2019s fine, you can always\nhand sew it. I can show you how to sew a hand rolled hem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using a sewing machine, it may get a bit tricky\nat the corners. You can get by it after practicing. Decorate the handkerchief (optional)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are many ways you can make your handkerchief unique.\nDoodle on it with permanent marker.
